In 1954, the U.S. Navy raises its annual
quota to recruit up to 2,000 Filipino citizens
to serve on active duty in the USN under
the 1947 Agreement between the U.S. and
the Philippines. Over 55,000 were recruited
in the USN and served with honor until the
end of the program in 1992.
